Why the Transportation Council is undertaking this project…

The Capital Region Transportation Council (Transportation Council) is leading the development of the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan for the Capital Region including Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga (excluding the Village of South Glens Falls and the Town of Moreau), and Schenectady Counties. The plan will provide recommendations for prioritized locations to help improve safety and strategies for eliminating fatalities and serious injuries throughout the region. The Cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Troy, and Watervliet, as well as the Village of Green Island, supported by the New York State Department of Transportation, are joint recipients of a Safe Streets and Roads for All Program grant through the US DOT.

Goals of the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan:

1

Build a Shared Vision of Roadway Safety in the Capital Region

2

Develop a Comprehensive Safety Improvement Plan

3

Annual Reporting on the Safety Implementation Plan

4

Establish Interjurisdictional Partnerships Across the 4 E’s (Engineering, Enforcement, Education, & Emergency Response)
